DeepGreen
An infrastructure for open access transformation

DeepGreen is an infrastructure that collects journal articles from academic publishers and sends them to authorised libraries for publication in their repositories. As a service provider for universities, non-university institutions and the academics working there, DeepGreen supports libraries in making publications freely accessible on Open Access (OA) repositories and promotes the interaction between scientific institutions and publishers. DeepGreen was funded by the German Research Foundation from January 2016 to June 2021 and will be operated for two more years by the Cooperative Library Network Berlin-Brandenburg, the Bavarian State Library and the Erlangen-Nuremberg University Library. The article discusses various aspects of the realisation of DeepGreen and addresses the prospects of this central OA infrastructure for German academic institutions.
